The village of Riomaggiore, Cinque Terre Italy

If you start your trip from La Spezia, after a 15 minutes trip by train you will find Riomaggiore. Riomaggiore Cinque Terre, like all the five villages of the Cinque Terre doesn't have Romanic origins: it was born when the Val di Vara inhabitants moved towards the sea, looking for better weather conditions to cultivate vine and olive.

Riomaggiore, with its vertical development, crossed by staircases and narrow roads called "caruggi" is famous to be the "entrance" to the famous "Via dell'Amore", the romantic path to Manarola with breathtaking view on the sea.

In order to have access to the Via dell'Amore Cinque Terre Italy , and, generally speaking , to the footpaths from Riomaggiore to Monterosso, you will have to buy a special ticket called "Cinque Terre" card, that you can find at the railway stations.

Manarola Village, Cinque Terre, Italy

The small village of Manarola Cinque Terre, Italy is connected to Riomaggiore by the famous path called: " Via dell'Amore", Lovers' Footpaths. From the village of Manarola Cinque Terre Italy who can have a breathtaking view on the sea of the Cinque Terre, because the village lies on a precipitous peak of rock:

If you are in the Cinque Terre on Christmas Time, go to Manarola after the sunset: you will try the experice of watching the one of the most wonderful cribs in the world: the light crib which is build every year from December 08 to January 20 on the hill of Manarola, la collina di Collora

The Ancient Village of Corniglia

Completely different from the other four villages that belong to the Cinque Terre Italy, Corniglia Cinque Terre is located on the top of a high hill, overlooking the sea: from there you can have a fabulous view on the sea, on the vegetable gardens on the hill, on the coast to Manarola! In the village of Corniglia Cinque Terre there is a narrow beach close to the train station: la spiaggia di Guvano, Guvano beach. The beaches in the Cinque Terre are very small but they worth a visit, thiugh: they are very romantic! The biggest beach on the Cinque Terre stays in Monterosso.

If you like to visit Corniglia, as it happens fot all the Cinque Terre Italy, we suggest you to use the train. In front of the train station of Corniglia you will find a little bus that for EURO 1,50 (you can buy the ticket directly on the bus) will take you from the station of Corniglia, Cinque Terre uphill to the village of Corniglia, uphill, in less than 10 minutes. You will find a bus waiting for the arrival of each train, till 08,00 pm. After that time, to reach the village of Corniglia from the station of Corniglia, you will have to use the long staircase, called "Ladarina" : 33 flights of stairs with more than 380 steps. The alternative is to walk along the car road linking the railway station of Corniglia, that stay at the sea level with the town of Corniglia. The main road of Corniglia is Via Fieschi.

The village Vernazza

All the five villages called "Cinque Terre" are special and beauful but usually Vernazza is the one that most of people fell in love for! Its charming harbor (the only natural harbor in the Cinque Terre!) its long and narrow colored buildings, the romantic small square in front of the little harbor with its cafes and tiny restaurants: looking at Vernazza you would say it's still a fisherman village that it was in the past.

Monterosso Village

The longest beach in the Cinque Terre Italy you will find here in Monterosso, the western village of the Cinque Terre: a sandy beach that looks like a miracle in this area! The western village of the Cinque Monterosso is divided into 2 parts by the hill of San Cristoforo: in the old part of Monterosso Cinque Terre you will find a nice historical center; the new part, called "Fegina" is a modern residential area, not that nice, actually…

The "acciughe di Monterosso" (anchovies of Monterosso) are still famous all over Italy, even if nowadays not many fishing boats still fish them.
